The Roles

The class were tasked to create a 5 minute short film using a script which would be sourced from http://www.australianshortfilms.com/scripts.html. After the brief was given the class then split into groups of four. This was when "The Call" film crew were created.

Niamh Thomson - Director.
In the team is Niamh Thompson as director. Niamh has a real eye for the overall look of the film and has the determination to make the film the best it can be. Niamh role will include looking for locations, actors which suit the original design of the film.

In this role, Niamh took control of the actors and the overall vision of the film under her wing. She headed the location hunting and the casting and overcome a number of problems which occurred. Helping the sound editor and the cinematographer her role was to ensure the piece was done to a high standard and all members of cast and crew worked together to create the vision.


Zen Quinn - Sound Designer and Editor.
Sound design and editing will be overlooked by Zen Quinn. Zen will be ensuring that sound on set is kept to a professional standard and will be editing the production in Avid with the help of the entire team. Particularly influenced by achieving the look and feel that Niamh wants.

Using the Zoom H4N and the NTG-2 microphone Zen will be in charge of ensuring that all sound is recorded on set to a proffessional standard and capturing foley and environmental sounds to be used through the film.

Zen has done sound before and has a bank of soundtracks which will be used through the making of the Call.

Chenice Gynn - Art Design and Producer.
Art design will be primarily looked after by Chenice who will be acting Producer on the film. This role will include booking out locations, creating call sheets and contacting cast members.

Through Chenice's role she will also be acting First Assistant Director, ensuring that the set runs according to the call schedule and ensuring that all the footage is captured on set. Looking at how the set were dressed including bringing extra actors into scene to add a natural quality to the piece.

Chenice will be in charge of the casting process and will contact the locations the team will be using on the production and through liaising with these create a production schedule which can be given to the cast and crew.

Kathryn Pogue
Lastly, the cinematographer will be Kathryn Pogue. This role will include looking after lighting, composition and ensuring the directors vision is met on screen. The cinematographer will also be tasked with logging footage and booking equipment ensuring that everything is ready for each shoot and making sure that the scenes are covered to a professional standard.

In this role, Kathryn will be particularly focusing on how to ensure the composition and lighting to make it reflect the mood. She will also be using the 5 C's of cinematography throughout the film making process.
