In this test, Kathryn was attempting to test and auge the strength of using two reflectors and a phone torch light. In the background there are two street lights which presented to aid the quality of the image. Problems which arised during the lighting test was as follows;
- The White Balance - As can be seen in the image there were issues with the colour balance. Kathryn felt that there must have been a problem with the setting of the balance on the camera and that in the actual shoot that she would pay close attention to this.
- Noise - In the shots there was a large amount of noise, discussing with the director, both the cinematographer and director felt that having a dreamy feel would be good for the flashback. This could be achieved through using a slower shutter speed such as 1/25th of a second.
- Movement - In the shots it is clearly visible when Kathryn is changing the lighting conditions or if the phone was just being held. Kathryn and Niamh, with lecturer, Tim Dunning decided that when they did the final shoot if the team booked a second tripod which they could attach the light on and this would keep the lighting still and focused on the main character.
- 180 degree line - In the clip above it can be seen that the camera movement breaks the 180 degree rule is broken. Although it is broken it was felt by the team that this would help the audience subconsciously feel more uncomfortable which should reflect how April feels upset in this scene and the camera movement and angles portray her feelings before she has spoken.
