The first day of filming went well. The team arrived on set in two groups. There were 6 members of the cast and crew at this location. These were; Niamh (Director and portraying April), Owain (portraying Carter), Zen (Sound and Boom Operator), Chenice (First Assistant Director), Carly (Stills Photographer and Runner), Kathryn (Cinematographer). The shoot started at 5pm and lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours. In that time frame the team shot both Scene 7 and Scene 1.
In the film, scene 7 provides a pivotal turn in the film as this is where the audience find out the back story behind Carter and his long lost love, April. This then leads to his epiphany of realising that he should look after his daughter, Bryce.

On the left is an image of the cinematographer and sound operator setting up for the shoot. This was the set up of the first shot of the evening and this was of a close up on Carter.

Below there is a still from the film and it can be seen the amount of noise within the shot. This location was the darkest of the film and this meant there was a high level of noise, If Kathryn had done this again, she would have looked for a location which had a connection to the mains or included a costing in the budget for a generator so that extra light could be generated.

After discussions with the director, Kathryn and Niamh decided if they were to remake The Call, this scene would have been changed to occurring through the day as this would have made the scene both technically and emotionally stronger as there could have been more use of the grade over the image to aid the romantic feel of the film.

There were many issues that the team had to deal with during the shoot, from freezing actors to flying reflectors. Zen had difficulties with the sound as the traffic moved heavily around the location and there was a pedestrian crossing which could be heard on the recording.

There were also issues with the cinematography that Kathryn had to tackle. During the film process there were problems with the lighting. To fix this the cinematographer decided to change the shutter speed of the shot to 1/25th. This was intentional due to the idea of having it like a dream sequence but it was only done due to the problems of the lighting.

The framing within the scene the cinematographer was happiest with as they complimented what was happening, although half way through the scene the 180 degree line is broken in the shot where they pass the necklace across if this was done again, Kathryn would have done a close up of Carter's hand on the correct side of the line, this was not possible during the shoot due to the lighting complications.

The team worked well together and the shoot went according to schedule. Overall the project taught the team about how to work under pressure and how to work in harsh conditions with the weather being below 0 degrees. Communication was a key point which worked well across the team, everyone was willing to put their word in where required and this aided the project to progress in a professional matter and have helped all members of the team to become stronger crew members.
